Miles watches as Spider-Man tries to disable the collider while fighting Wilson's henchmen, Green Goblin and the Prowler.

After a tragic event, Miles takes it upon himself to become the new Spider-Man and honor the legacy of the fallen hero. Along the way, he meets other "Spider-People" from different universes, including an older and worn-down version of Spider-Man named Peter B. "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse" was produced by Columbia Pictures and Sony Pictures Animation in association with Marvel Entertainment. The film was directed by Bob Persichetti, Peter Ramsey, and Rodney Rothman, with a screenplay by Phil Lord and Rothman. One interesting aspect of the film's production is its unique animation style, which combines computer animation with traditional hand-drawn comic book techniques inspired by the work of Miles Morales co-creator Sara Pichelli.

The film required up to 140 animators, the largest crew used by Sony Pictures Animation on a feature film. It also features a star-studded cast, with Shameik Moore as Miles Morales, Jake Johnson as Peter B. Parker, Hailee Steinfeld as Gwen Stacy, Mahershala Ali as Aaron Davis, Brian Tyree Henry as Jefferson Davis, and Lily Tomlin as Aunt May. The film is dedicated to the memories of the creators of Spider-Man, Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, who both passed away in 2018.

"Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse" was released to critical acclaim, with many praising its animation style, voice acting, and unique take on the Spider-Man mythos. The film won Best Animated Feature at the 91st Academy Awards, making it the first non-Disney/Pixar film to win the award since Rango in 2011. It was similarly successful at the Golden Globe Awards, the British Academy Film Awards, and the Annie Awards. The film's success has led to a sequel, "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse," which premiered in 2023 and received similar critical acclaim.

Spidey-tastic Fun, but Not without its Flaws

As a fan of Spider-Man and animation, "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse" was a movie I was eagerly anticipating. And while it didn't quite live up to my expectations, it was still a fun ride with a unique visual style and great voice cast.

The film's plot, which follows Miles Morales as he becomes the new Spider-Man and teams up with other Spider-People from parallel universes, is a refreshing take on the Spider-Man mythos. It's great to see a character like Miles, a young Afro-Latino superhero, given the spotlight in a major Hollywood film.

The animation style, which combines computer animation with traditional hand-drawn comic book techniques, is a visual feast for the eyes. It's clear that a lot of love and attention went into crafting each frame of the film, and it pays off in the end product.

That being said, the film does have its flaws. At times, the pacing can feel a bit rushed, and some of the character arcs feel underdeveloped. Additionally, while the film's humor is generally on point, there are a few jokes that fall flat.

Overall, I'd say that "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse" is definitely worth a watch, especially for fans of Spider-Man and animation. While it may not be a perfect film, it's still an enjoyable and visually stunning experience.
