Plot Summary of "Everything Everywhere All at Once"

"Everything Everywhere All at Once" follows the story of Evelyn Quan Wang, a Chinese-American immigrant who runs a laundromat with her husband Waymond and their daughter Joy. The movie begins with Evelyn being audited by the IRS and Waymond trying to serve her divorce papers. Meanwhile, Joy is dealing with depression and a strained relationship with her mother, who is reluctant to accept Joy's non-Chinese girlfriend Becky.

During a tense meeting with the IRS, Waymond's body is taken over by Alpha-Waymond, a version of him from another universe, who explains to Evelyn that there are parallel universes and the multiverse is in danger. Jobu Tupaki, another version of Joy, is on a mission to destroy the multiverse using a black hole-like object called the "everything bagel."

Evelyn is given verse-jumping technology to fight Jobu's minions, and she embarks on a journey across bizarre and diverse universes where she discovers different versions of herself and learns of Waymond's plans. Along the way, she gains powers through repeated verse-jumping and fights with empathy to save the multiverse. The movie explores philosophical concepts such as existentialism, nihilism, and absurdism, as well as themes such as neurodivergence, depression, generational trauma, and Asian American identity.
